The Dresser Memorial Presbyterian Home for the Aged, at 149 Jackson Avenue was destroyed in a general alarm fire on February 28, 1986. Box Alarm 414 was transmitted from the Home at 8 pm. Firefighters, police and staff evacuated 31 residents without injury, including six bed ridden patients. The patients were transported to Bradford Hospital. The fire started on the second floor and spread to the third floor and through the roof. Firefighters were on the scene for 14 hours. The Home was built by Solomon Dresser in 1903 and donated to the Presbyterian’s in 1957
